Marcel Newell:
When I was just a little guy in school my teachers would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up. They must’ve been waiting for an answer like, “a fireman,” or “a lawyer,” because they looked shocked when I told them I wanted to “have my own country.”

I went through school, always looking for a better way to complete the task at hand. I continued on to a formal education in engineering and entrepreneurial training. I owned and operated companies and did big business across Canada and the United States.

Everyone told me how happy they were for my business career. But something didn’t seem right. People were telling me I was successful yet I didn’t feel it inside. I knew I had to make a change.

I felt a strong pull to make a difference in people’s lives. I wanted to do something that truly mattered. It had to be a career that would align with my dream when I was small of creating an amazing country where everyone was happy, safe and having fun.

A long time friend urged me to connect with Nurse Next Door where they operated a business with a heart. Not only did I connect with the wonderful people at Nurse Next Door, but I fell in Love with them!

And the rest, as they say, is history.

Hollie Whitehead
While growing up I didn’t have Nursing as a career on my personal radar screen – but I did have a deep desire to truly nurture people and help them to remember that sense of joy that dwells within each of us.

I was raised on a farm on the prairies and from as early as I can remember I always wanted to build a community – a beautiful, peaceful sense of home for all. My first attempt at it was landscaping gopher holes in our farm yard when I was five. Then I began drawing plans for entire towns and built a tree house with my sister and cousins.

My next adventure took me off the farm around the world as a fashion model. After the traveling whirlwind, I landed back in Canada and founded an interior design company where I literally created buildings and helped my clients to feel joy in their own homes.

And then Nurse Next Door danced into my life. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason; and doing my life’s work with Nurse Next Door felt like a perfect alignment.

It is that same internal pull toward creating a community feeling, a safe haven where people can remember their own joy that attracted me to Nurse Next Door.

I am most excited about creating an atmosphere of joy and nurturing for every person we come into contact with, whether it is our clients who need a gentle helping hand, or our Care Crew staff who have the biggest hearts in the world and offer their hand as help.

As you may have noticed, both Marcel and I have always dreamed of creating a community, a country – no matter what you call it, we are building a sense of place and a feeling of home for everyone who dances into our lives. And we can’t wait to meet YOU!

Thank you for taking a moment to share in our stories, we look forward to hearing your story!
