Making Dreams Come True:

Nurse Next Door Caregiver wins dream trip to Prince Edward Island

In the spring of 2002, Lorrell C. and her mother Margaret took a trip they wouldn’t soon forget. The two had been dreaming of a trip together for many years and were finally able to take one when they visited beautiful Prince Edward Island.

“It really was an amazing experience,” said Lorrell, now 53. “We were best friends and for years after mom would always say ‘wasn’t it great in PEI?’ She loved it there.”

Lorrell’s sister, Dale, was also supposed to come along but unfortunately wasn’t able to make the memorable trip. Figuring that Dale could come along on the next trip, Lorrell and her mother took the chance at some much needed R&R on the island. Unfortunately, though, the chance wouldn’t come by again.

After their return, Margaret was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Sadly, less than a year after being diagnosed, she passed away.

“It was absolutely heartbreaking,” noted Lorrell. “It felt like it all happened so quickly and all I wanted was a chance to take her back to PEI with Dale so we could all experience it together.”

“After mom died the dream really became taking Dale there on my own so she could experience what Mom and I did,” Lorrell said. “I wanted her to know why mom spoke so dearly about PEI.”

It was with that hope that Lorrell, a Nurse Next Door caregiver in Oakville, Ontario, submitted her dream through the company’s new Dreams Program.

“When I heard about this program, I thought it was great,” beamed Lorrell. “I’d had this dream for a long time and knew I could use a bit of help.”

Lorrell’s dream definitely stood out.

“We received stacks of dreams from across Canada,” says Nurse Next Door Co-Founder John DeHart. “What really came across in Lorrell’s submission was that she was so genuine. You could really feel how much this trip meant to her and how much she wanted to share that experience with her sister.”

Recently, Lorrell was surprised by Nurse Next Door’s Oakville Franchise Partners, Christopher and Lori Paton. Lorrell was presented with a basket of Maritime goodies and an all expenses paid trip for two to Prince Edward Island.

“When Christopher and Lori told me I’d been selected, I was totally overwhelmed,” said Lorrell, holding back tears. “This means so much to me and I am so grateful to everyone who made this possible.”

“Our real goal here is to help our employees dream,” adds DeHart. “Every one of our employees has dreams and if they share them with us, we’ll do our best to help them come true.”
