Featured Speakers

Michael Port
Topic: Marketing

Called a “marketing guru” by the Wall Street Journal, Michael Port has lectured, trained, inspired, and provided coaching and consulting services to over 20,000 business owners in the last two years alone.

Michael is the author of the national bestselling Book Yourself Solid and Beyond Booked Solid (April ’08). Also forthcoming is The Contrarian Effect: Why it Pays to Take Typical Sales Advice and Do The Opposite (Sept. ’08) followed by The Think Big Manifesto in late 2008.

Before starting his consulting business, Michael spent years honing his management skills by working in senior management for some of the premiere health and fitness companies in the country, including The Sports Club Company and Clay, the most luxurious health club in New York, where he served as the Senior Vice President of Operations.

And if Michael looks familiar to you, that’s because he’s also starred in numerous TV and film projects including Sex and the City, Third Watch, All My Children, Guiding Light and The Pelican Brief.

Arthur Griffiths

Arthur Griffiths is known for his innovative thinking, team approach and proven track record of bringing people together.  In Vancouver, his name is synonymous with leadership, social responsibility and philanthropy.

One of the most successful businesspeople in the Pacific Northwest, Griffiths is the former owner of General Motors Place, the Vancouver Canucks hockey team and Vancouver Grizzlies basketball franchise.  The legacy of his commitment to Vancouver is evident in the city’s skyline: Griffiths changed the way sports stadiums were constructed when he built GM Place without public funds in 1995, and later served as Chair of the Millennium Skytrain Line, an environmentally sustainable transit project.

Griffiths is proud to give back to his community; under his leadership, Canuck Place children’s hospice was built in 1995, and his BladeRunners program provides jobs and skills training to Downtown Eastside residents.  He also initiated the Diamond Ball event, contributing millions of dollars to the Canadian Cancer Society.  Most recently, Griffiths chaired the successful Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games domestic bid committee.

Chip Wilson

Chip Wilson is a passionate entrepreneur and visionary best known for lululemon athletica, the yoga-inspired athletic apparel company he founded in 1998. Headquartered in Vancouver, lululemon manufactures, distributes and retails its products in some 35 stores across North America and internationally. But this University of Calgary economics graduate is not all business. Do not be surprised if he passes you on North Vancouver’s Grouse Grind, which he climbs three times a week, thanks to regular workouts with a personal trainer. Chip is a philanthropist, and other pastimes include reading and keeping abreast of new and emerging athletics. On the home front, Chip and his wife Shannon are the proud parents of five sons..

Brian Scudamore

In just over a decade, Brian Scudamore has grown 1-800-GOT-JUNK? from a single-truck operation into one of the most admired, successful and fastest growing companies in North America. 1-800-GOT-JUNK? -- ostensibly a junk removal service -- is extensively profiled in the media, is routinely voted one of the top two companies to work for in Canada, and is looked upon for inspiration by countless companies who want to grow a thriving, world-class business.

Brian Scudamore started 1-800-GOT-JUNK? with one truck at the age of 18. Today, after years of hyper-growth, the company has over 250 locations in Canada, the United States and Australia, and revenues have grown from $2 million to $105 million in the last six years alone. (Its success is well documented: it's been profiled in The New York Times and in 5,000 other articles; it's become an MBA case study at Harvard; and Scudamore himself has appeared on Oprah). Recently, Scudamore was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the International Franchise Association, as well as to the Globe and Mail's Top 40 Under 40; 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, meanwhile, was named the country's second best workplace by Canadian Business magazine.
