Because emergencies can happen at any hour, Nurse Next Door has a team in place to answer calls live, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and families are given peace of mind.Julie and her team also know that being cared for in one's own language, whether it is French, Spanish, Arabic or Italian, can make all the difference when someone isn't feeling well. Nurse Next Door not only provides medical and non-medical senior home health care services in Ottawa, they also provide staffing for long-term care establishments and they hope to one day have a therapy dog on the roster for CHEO and nursing homes!

As the Owner and CEO of Nurse Next Door Ottawa, Cindy MacKay proudly leads a passionate team dedicated to "Making Lives Better" for clients throughout Ottawa and the surrounding regions. Cindy's profound commitment to senior care began at the young age of seven, volunteering with her mother at a local retirement home. This early experience blossomed into a lifelong passion, ultimately leading her to joining the Nurse Next Door Ottawa family in July 2019.
With 6 years of post-secondary school education at Carleton University and Algonquin College in both Psychology and Developmental Service Work, with a concentration in seniors’ studies, Cindy has developed a leadership style that encourages a team of caregivers that go far beyond the expected. The Ottawa team's purpose is to empower clients to live where and how they choose, offering a comprehensive suite of services including Alzheimer's and dementia care, companionship care, personal support care, homemaking, respite care, nursing care, transportation/ accompaniment and more – all delivered without the burden of long-term contracts.
Cindy's impactful presence extends well beyond her business. She is a dedicated community member, demonstrating her passion through over 10 years of volunteer service on the Ottawa Dementia Society’s Board of Directors and various other community initiatives. Her passionate leadership and significant community contributions were celebrated when she was awarded with a Forty Under 40 business award in 2019.
Cindy and her dedicated Ottawa team are continually seeking to elevate their services to finding new ways to bring "Happier Aging" to every client they serve. Their focus is clear: to enhance independence and truly put the "CARE" back into caregiving.

What if I need to speak to someone after business hours?
Our Care Services Center is open 24/7. Call anytime, and one of our Care Services Specialists will be happy to assist you.
When should we consider 24-hour home care?
Use this list to help you decide if continuous monitoring is something you should consider:
- The person doesn’t sleep through the night (or gets up more than 2-3 times per night).
- The person has difficulty moving around and is at a high risk of falls.
- The person was recently (or is about to be) discharged from the hospital and needs constant monitoring.
- The person’s spouse or relative is exhausted from helping day and night.

How much does Nurse Next Door cost?
Nurse Next Door's services vary in price depending on the level of care required and the Nurse Next Door Care team that services your area. To get a better idea of pricing in your area, speak to one of our Care Services Specialists—we're open any time, 24/7.
We also offer a complimentary Caring Consult™, during which one of our care designers will help you determine the amount of care you may require. We'll then work with you to balance your budget and needs and find a home care option for you.
Can I trial Nurse Next Door or do I have to sign a long-term contract?
You are not locked into a long-term contract as a Nurse Next Door client.
To try out Nurse Next Door, just contact us to book a complimentary, no-obligation Caring Consult™. One of our care designers will visit your home to assess your needs and design a care plan with you, including frequency and duration of care.
Are your home care services only for seniors?
No. We provide home care services to people of all ages. While our specialty is providing Happier Aging® experiences to seniors, we also assist with disability care, post-operative care, and more for children and adults.

Will I have the same Care Team all the time?
At Nurse Next Door, we strive to provide consistent care with regularly assigned caregivers. If your Caregiver isn’t available, we will ensure a suitable replacement that meets your unique needs.
Does Nurse Next Door conduct a background check for Caregivers?
Yes, all Nurse Next Door Caregivers are carefully screened with criminal background checks, vulnerable sector checks and reference checks. We verify our Caregivers' educational credentials upon hire and ensure, on an annual basis, that every Nurse is registered and in good standing with their respective College of Nurses.
