Brain Training Program (Select locations)
While there is no cure for Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, studies show that exercising the brain can help slow the progression of these types of illnesses. Nurse Next Door’s Brain Training Program focuses on persons with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, brain injuries, or other memory-related challenges. The Brain Training Program is a non-clinical approach to slowing the progression of age-related mental decline.
There are two delivery options:
- A one-on-one, individualized program where a Brain Trainer tailors each session to the individual client.
- A classroom option available for those who want to test the service before starting a one-on-one program.
How Does It Work?
Brain Training effectively stimulates and reinforces cognitive functions so other memories and events can be recalled. A non-clinical approach, the program is customized around each client’s unique life story, interests, hobbies and experiences.
Each module is uniquely designed to increase learning, attention span, confidence, concentration and memory retention. We diligently track progress and share with all family members. The results are powerful.
Structure
The Brain Training Program consists of four separate modules:
1. Brain Game
This module focuses on stimulating brain activity through various games such as word searches, crossword puzzles and riddles.
2. Lifestory
In the Lifestory module, our Brain Trainer will stimulate the client’s mind by asking specific questions about their life in a conversational manner. Having clients think back to specific events will help to stimulate brain activity. This module can also include scrapbooking as a way to think back to a client’s past.
3. Fine Art
The brain can be easily stimulated through various artistic projects. The Fine Art module involves painting, drawing, coloring and listening to music.
4. Exercise & Social Outings
This module focuses on stimulating the brain through fun events. This may include walks in the park and talking about the birds they see, visiting an art gallery or museum, or going to watch a movie.
