Making Lives Better
With the population of senior citizens in Alameda, Oakland, San Leandro, San Lorenzo and Hayward continuing to grow rapidly, Cheryl and Chris recognized the importance of providing quality senior assistance to those who need it. Working in the ICU for many years, Cheryl often wondered what happens when patients go home after having major surgeries. Most of them are still recovering and unable to care for themselves when they are discharged. This elderly home care often falls to the spouses of these patients who often have health issues of their own. Consequently, the responsibility then falls to their children, who have young children and a demanding job. Cheryl and Chris understand how overwhelming this can be as they were in similar situations.
Nurse Next Door is not only a company that provides senior care assistance and respite care to families but one that cares about those personal touches. We are 100% committed to our core values of WOW Customer Experience, Admiring People, Find a Better Way and Passionate About Making a Difference.
Nurse Next Door offers quality senior home care as it focuses on the Happier Aging® experience – a unique service designed to get seniors back to doing what they love. It isn’t just about companionship, it’s about finding that one thing that makes them smile. Whether that’s participating in an activity with a friend, visiting a loved one or trying something new, our caregivers will do whatever it takes to make a senior’s life better.
Our Talent is Caring
Cheryl’s experience working as a hospital nursing assistant while in school, helps her understand the job she is hiring caregivers to do. As a result of this, she looks for those gems in the community that have the required skills and compassion behind the heart. Nurse Next Door values our caregivers because happy caregivers are committed employees.
When Cheryl’s ailing father needed senior assistance after being discharged from the hospital, Cheryl had to turn for help quickly. The agency she went with was great as far as getting the equipment installed that afternoon, but the personal touch was missing. While the care was adequate, especially under the circumstances, it lacked heart. Cheryl and Chris hope to create that WOW customer experience by hiring and working closely with caregivers who have a passion for making lives better.

Behind the heart
Cheryl is a registered nurse and has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Samuel Merritt University. While in nursing school, she worked as an in-home health aide and found it very rewarding. Toward the end of her schooling, she had an opportunity to work as a hospital nursing assistant. Cheryl went on to pursue a career in the nursing field, working as a registered nurse at Stanford Healthcare for 20 years with the last 12 of those years in the Cardiovascular Surgical ICU. During that time, she passed the Critical Care Registered Nurse exam to earn a CCRN certificate.
Chris earned a degree in microbiology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
